Alonissos to Glossa Route Map

Map of the Sporades showing the ferry route west from Alonissos to Glossa.

Alonissos to Glossa is a short inter-Sporades hop, between half an hour and just over an hour depending on whether you catch one of the Seajets fast craft or the conventional boats run by Aegean Flying Dolphins. Vessels on the route include Eagle Jet 2, Erato and the Speedrunner Jets. It is a routine local crossing, busy with islanders as well as visitors.

Glossa is the second town of Skopelos, a traditional hilltop village at the northern end of the island, and its harbour is Loutraki, which sits directly below it. The name catches people out: boats are timetabled to Glossa but tie up at Loutraki, with a steep road or a flight of steps up to the village. From up there the views run across to Skiathos and back towards Alonissos, and the village keeps a quieter, more lived-in feel than Skopelos Town.

This is a frequent link, with several sailings a day through the season across the two operators. Current departures, vessels and fares are shown in the table below, starting around €8. Buses connect Glossa with Skopelos Town at the other end of the island if you are heading further.

Hiring a car

Can you rent a car at Glossa on Skopelos?

Yes, small local agencies operate right at Loutraki, Glossa's port, some barely 100 metres from the pier. Many online booking platforms, though, list pickup at Skopelos Town instead, about 28km and a 40-45 minute drive away, so check the exact pickup point before booking. If you're staying near Glossa, a local agency at the port is simplest; otherwise compare options at Discover Cars.

Can you rent a car on Alonissos?

Yes, several agencies operate in and around Patitiri, the small port town where ferries dock. A car is handy for reaching the Old Town, Chora, about 3.5km uphill, and the beaches scattered along the east coast, though scooters and taxis cover the same ground on this compact island. Book ahead in August when local supply is limited. Compare prices at Discover Cars.
