Katapola, Amorgos's main harbour, sits in a deep, sheltered bay a short walk from the village, so there is none of the taxi scramble you get at busier island ports. Paros, at the other end, is one of the best-connected islands in the Cyclades, which is why this crossing draws everyone from day-trippers to islanders topping up on supplies. Depending on which boat you catch, you are either on a fast catamaran that clips across open water in under two hours, or a conventional ferry that threads a longer route through the archipelago, calling at other islands along the way and giving you a proper look at the Cyclades from the deck.
Demand builds steadily as summer progresses, with the timetable at its fullest in July and August and thinning slightly either side of peak season. SeaJets runs the high-speed option, useful if you are tight on time or hopping onward the same day. Blue Star's conventional ferry takes considerably longer but tends to be steadier in a swell and is the better choice if you would rather sit out on deck than be confined to an air-conditioned cabin.
