Katapola, the main port on Amorgos, sits in a deep, sheltered bay on the island's west coast, a short walk from the village of the same name. From there it's a short hop south-west through open water to Schinoussa, the smallest of the inhabited Small Cyclades, whose harbour is little more than a quay backed by a handful of tavernas. Some sailings run direct; others thread through the Small Cyclades chain, calling at neighbouring islands on the way, which is why the crossing time varies so widely depending on which ferry and which day you catch.
Outside the height of summer, sailings thin out considerably, and on Schinoussa in particular you'll want to check the schedule box above before building a tight itinerary around this route -- it's a small-island service rather than a high-frequency artery, and connections are worth confirming close to travel.
