Two of the Cyclades' most distinctive islands, and a ferry connection that feels like a natural pairing. Milos, with its volcanic landscapes and those justly famous coloured cliffs at Sarakiniko, gives way to Ios -- a smaller island that has spent decades charming visitors with its spirited Chora, its long sandy beaches, and a pace of life that slows the moment you step off the boat. The crossing is a short hop by Aegean standards, and once you've made it, you'll understand why so many island-hoppers put both islands on the same itinerary.
The route runs from March through September, with roughly one departure per day -- sometimes two on busier summer days. That's a comfortable window for planning, though if you're travelling in August you'll want to book ahead. Seats fill quickly when the whole of Europe decides the Cyclades are the right place to be.
