Patra to Bari Ferry

This is one of the longest ferry crossings out of Greece: an overnight run across the Ionian and Adriatic linking Patra, on the Peloponnese coast, with Bari on the Italian side. It's less a hop between islands than a proper sea voyage, and it draws a different crowd from the Cyclades routes -- drivers taking their own car between Greece and Italy, backpackers stringing together an overland route to or from Western Europe, and anyone who'd rather sleep through the crossing than fly it. The Patra terminal sits close to the city centre, with the port's ferry berths a short walk or taxi ride from the old town and the train and bus stations, so there's no need to arrange transport out to a remote harbour.

Because you're at sea for most of a day and a night, cabin or reclining-seat bookings are worth considering over a plain deck ticket, especially outside the calmest summer months -- the open water of the Ionian can have a noticeable swell even when the weather in port looks settled.
